Material selection is a key aspect of machining technical parts from plastics, as they are very versatile materials and can be used for a wide range of technical uses. Each type of plastic has different properties and characteristics that make them more suitable for certain uses.

If the requirements and the purpose of the parts are all the customer knows, our enineering office offers technical advice to determine the materials and machining processes suitable for each case.

What properties should be taken into account when choosing materials?

The first step is knowing the use of the part, its application. What function is it going to have?

This is usually the first question that our consultants ask the customer in order to understand the project in detail, enabling our experts to determine the main technical requirements that the part must have. From this point on, several factors and properties must be taken into account in order to choose the most suitable material for the manufacturing of the parts.

Mechanical properties
Ability of a material to resist forces and loads. Will the desired parts have to support a lot of weight? Or are they going to be parts that will be exposed to very little force?

Thermal properties
Ability of a material to withstand extreme temperatures or maintain its shape at elevated temperatures. When choosing the material, we must take into account the thermal conditions that the requested parts will be exposed to.

Electrical properties
Ability to conduct or resist electricity.

Cost
Considering that, in many cases, there can be several materials used in the machining process, the cost can be a decisive factor. It is important to consider the total cost of the part, including production costs.

Our experience in manufacturing customised plastic parts for a wide range of industries, such as the food, automotive or industrial sectors, among others, enables us to offer a comprehensive advisory service during all phases of the process. From the initial idea to the final manufacturing of the part, we work closely with the customer to analyse the requirements and needs of the final product.
